As-Level Computer Science 9618 : Full Course

Paper 1 – Theory (1 hour 45 minutes)

Focus Areas:

  • This paper tests your understanding of computer science theory.

  • Questions will often ask for advantages, disadvantages, features, comparisons, and recommendations — so learn to write clear, well-structured answers.

Tips for Success:

  1. Read each question carefully – underline keywords like ‘describe,’ ‘explain,’ or ‘evaluate’ before answering.

  2. Use your time wisely:

    • Total time: 105 minutes

    • If there are 25 marks per section, spend about 1 minute per mark.

    • Leave 5–10 minutes at the end for reviewing your answers.

  3. Use technical vocabulary – precise terms like interrupts, cache, paging, or virtual machine earn marks.

  4. When discussing advantages/disadvantages:

    • Always balance both sides (at least two of each).

    • End with a recommendation explaining which option is better and why.

    • Example: Although cloud storage offers scalability, local backups provide faster access — therefore, a hybrid approach is recommended.

  5. Practice writing short structured paragraphs — avoid bullet points unless asked.

  6. Revise all definitions and examples — real-world references make your answers stronger.
